Character Bio:
In "Almost Famous," Kate Hudson plays Penny Lane, a groupie on tour with a rock'n'roll band. Penny and her entourage refer to them selves as "Band-aids," not groupies. She saw herself as more than a groupie - she was there to inspire the music. She falls for the lead singer and manages to convince herself that he loves her as much as she loves him. In the film, 15-year old Rolling Stone writer William Miller joins the tour and Penny takes the young writer under her wing. She is a free spirit seemingly just along for the ride, the good times and the music, but she ultimately gets her heart broken and wakes up to face the sad reality of what she has become. In what some are calling her best work to date, Hudson gives a sincere performance of a young woman in love with music and finding herself.
